Lojuela Castle

The Castle of Lojuela belonged to the farmhouse of the same name. The population bordered on the terms of Dúrcal, Cónchar, Restábal and Melegís. Murchas was the closest farmhouse, less than 100 meters away, so it is not surprising that Lojuela disappeared when the town of Murchas grown.

The castle of Lojuela is located at an altitude of 600 meters. It crowns a small hill that descends almost vertically on one of its sides, on the left bank of the Dúrcal river.

It is thought that the Castle of Lojuela was built in the Emirate period, in the 11th century. In its surroundings there is a prehistoric site, where you can find abundant ceramic remains from the Iberian and Roman times that have been used in the construction of the castle wall.

The Castle of Lojuela has a polygonal floor plan and is made up of two well-differentiated structures: a tower and part of a wall.
