El Pinar is a municipality in the province of Granada. It is located in the south-eastern part of the Lecrín Valley. It is formed by two localities: Pinos del Valle (as the main nucleus) and Ízbor (forming part of this last one the annexed localities of Tablate and Acebuches).
The town of Pinos Del Valle has a strategic position over the Béznar dam, with easy access to the motorway. Located in the shade of the Chinchirina mountain at an altitude of 705 m, on whose summit the Santo Cristo del Zapato hermitage stands out, the town of Pinos del Valle is divided into two distinct nuclei: the Barrio Alto, where the Town Hall is located, and the Barrio Bajo, where the parish is situated. To these we must add the neighbourhood of Eras, which is the one that enjoys the best views over the Béznar reservoir and the rest of the region. This town has about 1062 inhabitants, distributed among its three neighbourhoods: Las Eras, Alto and Bajo. It has numerous springs that irrigate its fruitful lands. Among the agricultural resources that this town has, the olive, almond and sour trees stand out. Its two olive oil mills produce olive oil of renowned quality. It is located 14 km from Dúrcal and 39 km from Granada
Each of the neighborhoods has its own old church. There is a good bakery near the square in the upper quarter, and a supermarket next to the church. There is a supermarket on the way to the slum, where there is also a bakery and a pharmacy. The shop next to the church is open on Sundays. There is a secondary road from Pinos to Motril with excellent views. The scenery is spectacular, and from the characteristic Moorish tower of Venta de la Cebada we can see the Lecrin Valley and the Mediterranean on the other side.
The most typical dishes of the area of Pinos del Valle are: the stew of fennels, the orange soaking, Chopsticks, Charpas in the festivities, Hunting of partridge, rabbit, pigeon, thrush and ducks, carp.
→ The Day of the Cross (May 3). Organized by the stewards of the Holy Christ. A pilgrimage to the chapel takes place around midday. The locals gather to eat among the pines: ham, beans and wine, delighted with the magnificent views of the entire Valley. It is also celebrated with cucañas, open-air dances and fireworks.
→ The patron saint's fiestas (15, 16 and 17 August). Verbena procession, cucañas, fireworks, sports competitions
→ The Night of the Saints (October 31st). In the church square. At the beginning of the month, in many villages of the Lecrín Valley, the traditional Chestnut Festival is celebrated, which has been recognised as a popular Spanish festival since 1986. In Granada, it was a tradition that during the Night of the Dead, the bells of the churches rang during the whole dawn, for that reason the people gave to the bell-ringer a fanega with this autumnal fruit. That way, by eating chestnuts and sharing them with his family and friends who accompanied him, he managed to stay up all night. It consisted of a party in which he said goodbye to the summer, the time of harvesting the fruit, before the arrival of the dark season, the winter. Moreover, that day marked a boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead. That is why, in Celtic culture, this time marked the beginning of a new year. People tried to chase away the evil spirits by placing candles and skull-shaped gourds.
These beautiful towns allow both locals and foreigners to carry out outdoor activities, and thus enjoy their landscapes and springs.
In Pinos del Valle it is typical the dominoes and bar auctions, carp fishing, football, tennis and basketball.

This old mill was one of the various oil mills that existed in the town since the Muslim period. Outside you can see a press with which it was possible to extract the oil from the squeeze paste that had previously been placed in esparto baskets. This mill was bought by the El Pinar City Council and is used as a multipurpose space. However, it reminds us of our olive-growing tradition, as well as the importance of olive cultivation today, and its relevance in for gastronomy of the area.
The old washing houses of Pinos del Valle, have been restored as a sample of the uses and customs of the people that have already passed into history due to technological advances.
Lavadero de Arriba (upper washing house): This washing house is located in the village of El Pinar, and it is called the upper one because this village is divided into two parts and this washing house is located in the upper part.
The washing house was built with smooth stone where the clothes were rubbed, and a wooden roof supported by six brick columns, which protects people who were going to wash the clothes from the sun and the rain.
Before, it was the center of the town where people gathered since it was the only source of natural water. Women took advantage of it to talk, wash their clothes, etc... Now it is only used to fill water bottles.
Lavadero de Abajo (lower washing house): Located in the lower quarter it is still used by some older women for what it was conceived for: washing and meeting people.
